In recent years, Camila Rodrigo’s projects have focused on the analysis of natural landscape and the ways in which it is constructed, as an ideal and immutable concept. Her works documents the fictional dimensions of landscape’s natural appearance, as well as its constant transformations. The static gaze usually fails to notice movement and prefers to read these terrains as a contemplation ground. By expanding the photographic support, Camila has created facilities in which tensions are generated between nature and its representation in the shape of photocopies facing stone blocks or reproductions on stacked paper aligned to stratigraphic cuts. These works propose to analyze how the process of perception of the environment is carried out, whilst simultaneously, predetermined concepts and meanings are imposed.
Reverse Space gathers a group of works that uncover appearances, inviting us to dig deeper and change our point of view. Such as a stone cliff that the public can erode and tear, to reveal the superimposed layers that form the image of a forest, supported by a wide structure, which upon turning openly exposes its frame. In this exhibition the room has been inverted, keeping the entrance opaque and placing a large opening towards the opposite end. This makes it possible for the glass screen, open to the park, to become the scenographic frame and background of recreation.
When subject meets landscape, through looking at it is already representing it. To perceive is to create for yourself a distorted image that always defends its authenticity, although it is necessary to disguise it with meaning filters. When changing perspective or seeing the reverse, doubt is introduced, what seems to be immutable is questioned, then the collapsed truth of the panoramic image remains. Facing the reverse, you can delve into how it is perceived, the surface is torn, until it reaches an opaque background that confirms the uselessness of the action and inert fiction. There is no landscape that is not filtered and there is no single authentic foundation in the image, everything is sustained by the tension between the supposed concrete reality and a representation created as nature.
